You may have seen them on Pacsun.com recently or even on Victoria's Secret models if you have a sharp eye...but the newest and coolest product I discovered so far this summer are Pura Vida bracelets! I got mine at a my local privately owned Billabong store, but surely you won't have a problem finding these brightly colored bracelets (they're hard to miss!). Read more if you want to know more about my recent find. =)
I'm not exactly sure of what kind of material they use to make these bracelets, but to describe it as best as I can, I will say that they are made of very thin thread and have a smooth waxy finish. They are very comfortable to wear, and you can adjust them to fit to the size of your wrist. I wear mine pretty tight and form fitting to my wrist, and from that a bit of the string sticks out and can get kind of annoying. To solve this, I simply tuck the excess string under the multiple threads and it hides pretty good. These bracelets are made very well, and the material is very durable, so I don't have to worry about losing it or the string snapping. This is great because I can keep them for whatever I may be doing and thus won't lose them easily (seeing as I am a person who does tend to misplace things here and there) and I can wear them to the beach and in the oceans, as well as in the pool.
Now I will go into detail about the four main types of bracelets that are most popular and how they are priced. The first of the bunch is your original solid. Very plain and simple but cute. These sell for $5 and come in multiple strands of one color or multiple strands of multiple solid colors (that was a mouthful!).
The next sort of bracelet Pura Vida offers are the beaded bracelets. Again these come in the same color schemes as the solids, but this time with multicolored beads spread out in the center of the bracelet. These go for $8 on the site.
Now, my personal favorite of the Pura Vida bracelets are the platinum beaded ones. I think they are really casual, but can dress up any outfit and can even be worn to semi-formal events (if you're daring enough!). Same color schemes, and are similar to the beaded, but in place have platinum metal-looking balls in the center scattered about. These cost $12.
Lastly, the most expensive of the main 4 bracelets are the braided ones. I assume it is because they are the most laborious because they are beyond gorgeous. These color schemes really range but most often, are braided in three different colors. Some completely different colors and some very similar to each other. These come to $15.
Now this company may seem like they are just here for the wealth with their different innovation, but Pura Vida Bracelets are more than just a pretty piece of jewelry on a wrist. There are hundreds of different bracelets that are all specifically designed for various causes and disease awarenesses! Some examples of the causes and awarenesses they have are for Autism Awareness, Breast Cancer, Cystic Fibrosis, Diabetes, Japan Tsunami Relief, Bipolar Disorder, Suicide Prevention, Mental Health, Colon Cancer, Crohn's Disease, U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, Brain Cancer, Down Syndrome, and much, much, more. Visit the Charity Collection for a complete selection of causes.
Pura Vida is here to give back, no matter how small or how big. It's companies like this that should be strongly supported, because we need to exercise this idea in our society much more often than it already is. Check out Puravidabracelets.com for more information on their background, product information, awareness bracelets, and where to find locally! I hope you enjoyed this suuuper long post, and read all the way through...and maybe decided to invest in some bracelets =D
